HOCHSCHULE REUTLINGEN

Herman Hollerith Zentrum

The Herman Hollerith Zentrum (HHZ) bundles the scientific expertise of colleagues from the Faculty of Informatics at Reutlingen University. This teaching and research center is seamlessly integrated into the structures of both Reutlingen University and its Faculty of Informatics.

With help from industry and science partners, relevant sub-questions in business informatics are addressed in both teaching and research. The profile of HHZ includes Bachelor's and Master's of Science study programs, as well as the research center, which serves as a coordinating research organization for collaborative research projects. A key focus is on providing doctoral programs for outstanding graduates in the center's own Master's programs.

Focus

With the bachelor's program in Digital Business and the master program’s in Digital Business Engineering, Digital Business Management and Professional Software Engineering, HHZ addresses important areas of innovation in business informatics and links them with key perspectives of current research: digital business and digital transformation, enterprise and software architectures for services- and cloud computing, business process management, big data management and analytics, artificial intelligence, sensor technology, telematics and the Internet of Things, as well as concepts for supporting transformation projects for strategically oriented digital business and associated information systems. HHZ expressly pursues an interdisciplinary approach and close integration of business and IT.

Cooperative Research

Business-related questions in business informatics are narrowed down into practical, strategic topics and explored through the dialogue between research and industry. Students and doctoral candidates are actively involved and supervised in co-operative research. The results of the research work are incorporated into the scientific discussion in the form of high-quality conference papers, lectures, journal articles, project documentation, theses, monographs, and research studies, as well as through nonprofit knowledge exchange platforms in Germany and internationally.

Internationality, Exchange, Dialogue

Students, doctoral candidates, and professors are involved in exchange programs with national and international partners through targeted measures: Cooperative doctoral colloquia, workshops with corporate partners, cooperative publications and conferences, the HHZ annual conference, participation in specialist groups and working groups of the GI, ACM, IEEE and other scientific organizations, as well as project cooperation with scientific and industrial partners as part of joint research programs. In addition, the members of the teaching and research center organize national and international specialist conferences and actively contribute to the scientific debate as evaluators and experts.

Doctoral program

The professors at HHZ organize the doctoral program in close cooperation with colleagues from accredited doctoral programs serving as co-supervisors, reviewers, and examiners for both native and collaborative doctoral procedures. The results of this joint research benefit not only the research and teaching but also the students and doctoral candidates at the Reutlingen and Böblingen campuses and the involved partner institutions.
